Chris joined Liverpool John Lennon Airport as a Baggage Handler in 2001, but was soon handling much, much more.
“I was at university, studying business administration at the time, and it was the perfect job to fit around my studies. I was eventually promoted to Supervisor but then an opportunity came up in the fire service based at the airport. Even though it wasn’t connected with my studies I liked the thought of it, applied and got the job.
“I have done all my training at the airport and am now also an advanced medical technician. I’ve learnt many life skills and gone down a route that I never would have imagined. I love my job and every day is different. Even when we’re not officially on duty, we’re still ambassadors for the airport and we’re always willing to help out passengers and our colleagues.
“There have been many highlights in my career – one when I was baggage handling in 2005 and saw thousands coming into the airport after Liverpool had won the Champions League Final in Istanbul. The atmosphere was amazing. The other is being part of the resuscitation team and being there to prolong a person’s life until help arrives.”
